Sleeping through the night!

Bailey has slept til 7:30 a.m. for 2 nights in a row now! Matt and I are so excited and both woke up saying, “Is the baby okay?” Matt scurried into her room to check on her and make sure she was still alive and kicking. Well, she was alive, and snoring. Loudly. It was too funny. She had her hands above her head in “touchdown” pose (like her daddy sleeps) and was snoring away. It was so sweet. She’s been feeding well before bed so she loads up her belly and it helps her be content through the night. Yippee! We had forgotten what a full night’s sleep feels like. We hope this is a trend that continues!

13 weeks

Bailey is 13 weeks old as of yesterday. Lots of changes in the last week… she is even more fascinated with putting her hand (whole, preferably) in her mouth, and loves sucking on her four fingers. It’s her own little “hand sandwich.” Matt and I laugh that she hasn’t found her thumb yet. She seems to find a lot of comfort in those fingers! She’s also trying to pull herself to a sitting position, and it’s quite funny because she still doesn’t have full control over the weight of her head. She holds it up pretty well, but doing that and engaging her ab muscles to sit up is a little too much for her at the moment. But she’s concentrating on it hard to try and get herself up. She spent quite a bit of yesterday wanting to do so during her wake time.

This morning, she also laughed. She’s half-giggled a couple of times now, and we weren’t sure if it was a true laugh or not, but this morning I tickled her twice and she laughed both times. It wasn’t a squeal, but definitely delight, and so fun to finally hear. I can’t wait for her to do more of this — it’s a joy to see her happy.

She’s also still trying to stand up. That trend has continued, and she holds her arms out while she bears weight on her feet to try and keep her balance. I think she’s going to crawl and walk early, which scares me a little (’cause I’m not quite ready for it). Matt says we’ll have to put her in sports at a young age; she has a lot of energy.

Hand sucker

Bailey’s fascinated with her hands. She is all things hand. Especially the right hand. In her mouth. The whole thing — if she could manage to get it in there. Matt jokes with her and says, “You’re eatin’ a hand sandwich!” She just ignores him, gnawing away. It’s cute.

Our friends Jenny and Darrell came over last night to meet her for the first time. She did really well, and gave Jenny several smiles. It was so good to catch up with our friends and have them share in the life of our daughter. I know that our close friends and family will have an impact on Bailey’s life and the girl, and woman, she will eventually become.

Bailey is now in 3-6 month clothing. Bye bye newborn clothes. She’s not super chunky though she has some pillsbury rolls on her legs. Her growth is really related to her length; she is growing length wise and her feet are so big we’ve joked that we’ll have to cut out the toes on her outfits so we can get her in them. She takes after Matt in this regard, definitely not me.

Visit with Pastor Peter

Pastor Peter is a wonderful pastor from Zimbabwe who is doing God’s work in Africa to spread Christ as well as meet the needs of a country that is not only in political upheaval, but these people lack the basic necessities that most of us Americans take for granted. They don’t have food, they sometimes lack shelter, running water and electricity, and in these horrid times all they have to rely on is their faith. Pastor Peter has made it his life’s work to share Christ with his people and to help meet their needs.

Many of you know that Matt and I met Peter last year and he gracefully prayed over us that God would answer our desire to have a baby after 5 losses. Two weeks later, I was pregnant again, and carried to term with no complications whatsoever. Pastor Peter was the catalyst for our miracle baby, and we thank God for him and his faithfulness to do God’s work.

Peter is visiting this week from Africa in the hopes of raising money and bringing much needed food and goods back to Africa with him (by container ship) to help his people. We introduced him to Bailey for the first time, which was a momentous occasion for me. He held her and prayed over her. I truly believe she has been prayed for by one of God’s great followers, and it’s a moment I will not forget. I hope one day she gets to meet him and understand the wonderful things he is doing on this Earth.

Below are some pictures of Bailey with Pastor Peter. If you would like to give to Peter’s ministry, you can visit his website: http://www.peterndamba.com

And here is a funny picture taken this week of Bailey with her Daddy’s orange juice. Bailey is becoming such a little character. She has been enjoying lots of music this week (she loves when I play piano and sing to her) and she’s drawing her legs up and over in an attempt to roll over. She’s getting closer! She is also grasping more objects and is following Mommy with her eyes as I move around a room. She enjoyed seeing her cousins Abby, Alex and Madie this week — she can’t wait to play with them one day!
